[Simon was not in his room when the flood hit, which means there is currently a tuxedo cat sitting on one of the counters in the infirmary, because he his a cat and will sit where he damn wants to, thank you very much.

... Also his comm was up here and it's hard enough to access it with paws without having to knock it off the counter and drag it somewhere else.]

Homura? Are you okay? [His tail swishes back and forth a little, visibly irritated. He's somewhere between really frustrated and kind of freaking out, because he's a cat, and this is sort of a decidedly NOT AWESOME first flood to be affected by.]

What exactly is the procedure when something like this happens? Do we even know how many people are affected? ... Do we even have food for anyone who's a big predator? [Because, frankly, the alternative is sort of a terrifying thought. And while he's eaten lousier food than cat food, he's still not really in any rush to try it out.

He heaves a short, annoyed sigh.] And I guess if anyone gets hurt, get in touch with one of the other doctors, if they're not affected. I don't think I'm going to be much use until this is over. [And if a cat can roll its eyes, you can bet Simon wants to do it right now, but.] The novelty of not having thumbs has already warn off.

In most cases, having animal companions around has actually been proven to help patients feel more relaxed in hospital environments.

[Simon doesn't move to get off the counter when she comes in, but he does straighten up so he's sitting on his haunches, staring at her.]

Is this really necessary?

[She cradles him against her body, which seems like a weirdly intimate thing to do with a cat who is also a grown man who has also been given responsibility for your wellbeing...but she doubts carrying him by the scruff of his neck would go down well.]

...We don't know what else is on the ship. It would be safer if you were somewhere with a door that locks.

[It is kind of weird, and maybe a little uncomfortable if not entirely unpleasant, but Simon figures the best thing to do is just sit tight and go along with it for now, although he might start squirming to be put down eventually because that's enough of this, tyvm. B|]

I don't want to spend the next few days locked up somewhere, Homura.

I don't want to hunt for my food, if that's what you're suggesting. I don't even know how one goes about doing that. [Even if ripping off a chipmunk's head sounded kind of awesome and wasn't that a horrible thought. :|]

I was suggesting that one of us should talk to her about getting you something to eat. Even if you do have predatory instincts, you don't have experience. There's no reason for you to be any better at hunting than a day-old kitten.

I suppose I could think of worse ways to spend a few days.

Mostly we just try to stay calm and organized. Doesn't help that usually when this happens, some animals can't talk to humans.

There should be prey in the CES. I - don't know about anyone else, but I seem to have acquired certain...instincts.

If not, I'm sure there's raw meat in the kitchens. We could ask the Admiral for more, he might even deliver.

I can safely say that yes, there is food on board for large predators. [Trust the large predator on this, even if she's currently in the form of a small predator.]

Although I think a lot of it's been eaten already.

I'd just hate to think what's going to happen if someone decides a rabbit's a good a choice as any for lunch.
